Learn to Fly Hang Glider

Hang Glider Training VS Driving a Car

Learning to fly a hang glider is just like a provisional licence holder learning to drive a car in the UK, it costs money, time, and requires effort and dedication from the person trying to acquire this new skill.

As a driving instructor, when I started to learn to fly a hang glider in 2005, I had hoped that I wouldn't have problems using my psychomotor skills to quickly be able to handle the glider, and pass all the assessments that would grant me my hang gliding pilot ratings. I was wrong.

One of the main differences between learning to drive a car in preparation for a driving test as a provisional licence holder, and flying a hang glider is that first you fly alone, and secondly mistakes made while learning to drive a car will be less costly than if you make mistakes while learning to fly a hang glider.

Whatever the reason it is for you wanting to learn to fly a hang glider, be prepared to be patient, and take your time, as hang gliding is much more dangerous than driving a car, and funnily enough, it takes less time to get a hang glider pilot rating compared to the training involved in passing a driving test. You don't have a provisional licence when learning to hang glide!
